What is online bill pay?

Online Bill Pay is a payment method that allows customers pay you digitally through whatever bill pay service they use.

When you sign up as a small business to this service, we will add you to the Online Bill Pay Directory.

Then, when you send an invoice via Hiveage, your customer will be able to search for your business right inside their preferred service where they do all other bill payments—such as their mobile banking app, budgeting app or digital wallet.

​This makes the whole payment process easier and faster for both you and the customer. The best part? It has a flat fee of just 1%!

How it works

Customer receives your invoice and chooses bill pay

Your customer sees that your Hiveage invoice has Online Bill Pay as a payment option.

They then log into their mobile banking app and go to the bill pay tab.

Customer adds you as a payee

The customer chooses to add you as a payee in their banking app.

When they search for your business name, it will appear in the search results as we have added you to the Online Bill Pay Directory.

Add account details

Your Hiveage invoice will always have a unique invoice number to be used for each payment.

​The customer adds this invoice number in the field labeled “Account number on bill” to confirm you as a payee.

Pay!

Your customer adds the invoiced amount and then confirms the payment.

​That’s it!

For future payments, the customer will go directly to this 1-click payment button.

How is this different from ACH?

Payor Experience

Online Bill Pay Initiates payment through one trusted, familiar online banking/app interface already used to pay other bills.

ACH payments have to be initiated by manually inputting account numbers.

Security

Online Bill Pay does not provide account numbers to third parties. It is the easiest digital payment alternative for paper check payors.

ACH exposes the account number and routing number when authorizing the payment.

Speed

Online Bill Pay take only 1–3 days to get funds into your bank account.​

ACH payments take 3–4 days.

Reliability

With Online Bill Pay, all settled payments into your bank account are final.​

Customers value the bill payment guarantee (offered by the bank/financial institution) to avoid late fees from lost/delayed paper checks and have control over when payments get deducted from their account.

Any consumer or SMB with an online checking account is already automatically setup for Online Bill Pay under their existing login credentials. This could be with a traditional bank or credit union, neobank/digital bank, digital wallet, AP provider or wherever your customer chooses to manage their finances. Once your business is enrolled in the Online Bill Pay directory, your customers can find and pay you electronically just like they do already for their utility, phone and other bills.

 How does Online Bill Pay work?

Your customer will see on your Hiveage invoice that Online Bill Pay is a payment option. They can then complete payment following the same simple process they already follow to pay their other monthly bills (i.e., log in to their app, go to the Online Bill Pay section, select you as the payee, and complete the payment).
